The Aged Huntsman and the Loveless Procrastinator    $25.00
First Paragraph: Though the Modernist movement and the Romantic Age were divided by the Victorian Period for almost a century, the Victorians kept the ideals of Romanticism in their literature. The Modernists rebelled against those kept ideas, calling for a new path away from the stuffy Victorians, but in that way they also attempted to discard the leftover Romantic ideals. Or at least that was the object of the avant garde mentality. Literary concepts never become obsolete; they are instead absorbed and modified. Though there are clear differences between the Romantic and Modern periods of British literature, a similarity or two surely lurks, waiting to be discovered. It is so with two prime examples of each period, both written by who could be considered the âfathersâ of their particular movement. William Wordsworth is synonymous with Romanticism and his poem, Simon Lee, the Old Huntsman, was a standard that other writers of his day followed. More then one hundred years later the oft quoted and equally loved T. S. Eliot wrote The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Who stands out more in said periods then these two greats? Is it not natural then to compare their works that focus upon the âlife storiesâ of two distinct characters? Upon comparison, there are several dissimilarities, such as the way the pieces are presented to the reader and the obvious variation in style. However, the actual lives of the characters within these works, Simon Lee and J. Alfred Prufrock parallel in an interesting way, though a century apart... More Details

Role of The Father    $30.00
First few paragraphs: Perhaps the largest role in any manâs life belongs to their father. The need for patriarchal recognition can be intense. Thus, through the ages in writing, the father-son dynamic can be seen. There are many examples in Greek mythology and literature, the Bible, Korean mythology, and Shakespeare (particularly Henry IV and Hamlet), as well as others. Freud makes special mention of it. For Kafka, the struggles with his father became a central issue in many of his writings. His frustration as apparent on the page; he lived as his characters. Kafka, in many ways, was Gregor Samsa, the vermin insect. From the beginning of Metamorphosis, it is clear there is an issue between the character of Gregor and his father. Gregor is the breadwinner of the family. He works as a traveling salesman, a job he secretly loathes, not only to support his family financially, but also to pay off the debts of his father. He gladly gives his family money and they accept it, but there are no humble thanks or warm feelings. Despite his contributions, he is not appreciated. He feels separated by his job, almost dehumanized. His father considers him a meal ticket. Gregor does not have the time to have but a quick breakfast, while his father enjoyed a lengthy one, considering it the most important meal, and had the time to labor over his food and spend hours partaking in the meal while Gregor worked. There is a great difference in their lives, Gregor sacrifices the life he wants for his fatherâs happiness, of which Mr. Samsa does not give a second thought. Of course, this is before Gregor is actually transformed into the insect, which symbolizes the complete separation. After this, Gregor and his fatherâs relationship goes from deteriorated to non-existent. The first reactions of the women in Gregorâs life upon viewing his changed appearance are shock and sadness, while his father shows extreme anger ... More Details
