Compare and contrast essay on of Shakespeare and Robert Browning.    $30.00
Both poems A and B objectify women and sets standards of beauty. In poem B, the attraction of love is not above the physical unpleasantness where purity of feeling coincides with the ugliness of the physical. The persona employs the use of conventionally beautiful objects of the world to illuminate the contrast in physical appearance to his mistress. The negative connotation of color where “coral is far more red than her lips” (2) and her eyes being “nothing like the sun” (1) portrays how the capacity to love someone relies heavily on the carnal mind. Similarly in poem A, the physical aspect of a woman is unrealistic in its plastic impression of them being perfect and flawless in being compared to a still painting. In poem A, the duke refers to Fra Pandolf’s “piece a wonder” (3) on which his “hands / worked busily a day.”(3-4) The duke mentions Fra pandolf by “design”(6) as strangers always wonder how the painter put so much of “depth and passion”(8) into the realistic expression on the duchess’s “countenance.”(7) The visual imagery conjured through the expression “there she stands / as if alive” (46-47) also relates to a full length portrait that graphically resembles a lifelike resemblance of her. Hence, both poems treat women as object of visual and physical pleasure. ... More Details
