| Creationism: America’s Split Between the Definition of Science, and the Lack of Relig | $25.00 | |
|
Dear reader,
I am currently taking a course entitled Human Origins. In the class, the topic of evolution is brought up often, as well as an opposing theory known as creationism. Before this class, I had interacted with the concept of creationism in Sunday school as a young child, and then the teaching didn’t occur again until my sophomore year in my college-prep biology class. In debating the concepts of evolution and creationism, I began to ponder how creationism was taught in public schooling, when it violates the true definition of science, as well as the Constitution of the United States? In considering the idea, I came to the firm decision that creationism should not be taught in American public schooling. This paper, “Creationism: America’s Split Between the Definition of Science and the Lack of Religious Limitations,” aims to convey my opinion using the supporting evidence I’ve researched to reinforce perspective. This point of view is based off my position as an American student, which I feel is a valuable opinion, for I am the future of America. As a student, I truly believe that creationism being taught in a scientific classroom is contradictory to what science is really supposed to convey, and that its lack of evidence makes it an unreasonable choice as a scientific topic. As an American, I feel that creationism violates the Constitution, and in doing so, violates my rights as a citizen of the country. In writing this paper, I also had to consider my Christian identity, and in doing so, I’d like to say that religion is truly a beautiful thing, but in America, all religious perspectives must be considered. I honestly believe that there is a time and place for everything, but at this progressive time in America’s life it is negligent for creationism’s place to be in a scientific classroom. Science, in America, is science, and religion, in America, is religion, and so, to appease the rules of society, keep it that way.
Sincerely,
JG
