In the past, many case studies have been conducted on game platforms that seem highly popular among specified audiences or general audiences. These research ventures have shown that the development of interactive HCI platforms is not an easy task due to the needs of the market. Thus, many methods of examining HCI in social gaming have been developed and applied. However, one major limitation exists in many case studies today – a huge focus on the game platform and not the gamer. This paper, in a case study of its own on the social interactive game â€Maplestory’, has tested a newly developed â€Diary Method’ based on methodology for assessment of managerial work. This paper has found that players of â€Maplestory’ are indeed attracted by the repetitive tasks of level advancement and a highly integrated and well thought through player-to-player interaction system. The crux of the findings is the level of specificity of the results – narrowing down the roots of attraction of the gamer by the game to two key facets and none else. 1. Introduction
Aristotle born in Stageira in 384 B.C. was a student and a follower of Plato. Aristotle was one of the greatest philosophers and preachers ever born. “He surveyed in his Ethics the ends to which conduct should be directed” (Thompson, Trendennick & Barnes, 1977). What best Aristotle did was that he introduced psychology into his study of human behavior. Aristotle conceives of ethics as a field distinct from the theoretical sciences. He enhanced the framework of philosophy, by switching over ethics from theoretical science to a more practical science, which was based on proper understanding of life as well as human nature. “Ethics, as viewed by Aristotle, is an attempt to find out our chief end or highest good: an end, which he maintains, is really final” (http://www.utm.edu/research/iep/a/aristotl.htm#Ethics). We study ethics in order to improve our lives, and therefore its principal concern is the nature of human well being. Like Plato, he regards the ethical virtues (justice, courage, temperance) as complex rational, emotional and social skills. But he rejects his idea that training in the sciences and metaphysics are a necessary prequisite for a full understanding of our good. What one needs, to live well, is appreciation of the way in which such goods as friendship, pleasure and virtue, fit together as a whole and must acquire, through proper upbringing and habits, the ability to see, on each occasion, which course of action is best supported. Therefore according to Aristotle practical wisdom, cannot be acquired solely by learning general rules but also through practice, emotional, and social skills that enable us to put our understanding of well being into practice.
